Maison d’Art
Our property is in the heart of Quillan, with all the weekly and often daily summer events which take place on your door step. The first thing you will notice when entering Maison d’art is the amazing twelve-metre-high atrium awash with artworks…in fact almost every wall in the property is full of artwork of all descriptions.
Quillan is located at the foothills of the Pyrenees, on the road between Carcassonne and Perpignan. The river Aude, known for its rafting and fly fishing runs through the town. This super friendly, multicultural town offers several restaurants, cafes, and bars, it has a twice weekly market on Saturday and Wednesday. There are two lakes close by, one for fishing and the other for swimming. The views all round are spectacular and there are endless hiking routes for all levels. If Biking is your thing, whether it’s road cycling through the spectacular gorges and maybe challenging yourself on one of the many hills or mountain biking through the mountain forests you will not be disappointed. The location is thought of as one of the most spectacular in France.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better…Quillan is only 40mins to the nearest ski lifts, about an hour drive to the Mediterranean and Andorra is less than 100km away.

A brief history
From its architectural characteristics the property can be dated to the second half of the 18th century. This house belonged to the Pinet family, who traded in wood, they preserved it until the middle of the 19th century. The 1826 cadastre indicates that the owner of plot 17 is then Louis Pinet, a textile manufacturer. The parcel that he owned was much larger than the house is today because it also included a cloth dyeing area and a garden on plot 18. The house was then bought in 1929 by Doctor Charles Bouchère, and it became a doctor’s surgery. It was stripped and subdivided into various rooms to house the doctors, fortunately it only lost a small amount of it's ornate grandeur and it still has its stairwell, fireplaces and ornate plaster in Louis XVI-style.
